Sick leave and vacation pay are due to all employees in Israel, including foreigners. Below is the minimum by law; a contract or industry agreement may provide more.
Sick leave
| Sick day | Payment |
|---|---|
| 1st | not paid |
| 2nd and 3rd | 50% of daily salary |
| from the 4th | 100% |
- For every full month of work, 1.5 sick days are accumulated - 18 days per year, no more than 90 in total.
- You need a doctor's certificate (ishur mahala).
- Unused sick leave upon dismissal is usually not paid in cash.
Vacation
| Experience with the employer | Five days | Six days |
|---|---|---|
| 1–5 years | 12 working days | 14 working days |
| 6 years | 14 | 16 |
| further | increases by a day per year, up to 20 (five-day) and 24 (six-day) | |
- If you worked for less than a year or less than a full week, your vacation is calculated proportionally.
- Unused leave upon dismissal is paid in cash (pidyon khufsha).
- Vacation days must be visible in tlush.
Keep your doctor’s certificates, body care, and hours logged. If sick leave or
vacation was not paid - this is a common cause of labor disputes, and those who have papers win them.
