📋 Working in Israel: how to talk to an employer at an interview
Interviews in Israel are often simpler and more straightforward than many expect.
The perfect speech, long resume, or “correct” answers are not always expected here. Often it is important for an employer to understand three things:
1. can you be relied upon;
2. is the schedule suitable for you;
3. Are you ready to work and study on the spot?
Therefore, your task is not just to answer questions, but to focus on your strengths.
❌ Many candidates immediately start with the disadvantages:
“My Hebrew is weak”
“I have no experience in Israel”
“I have never worked in this field”
It is better to speak honestly, but immediately add your strengths.
✅ For example:
“My Hebrew is still basic, but I understand simple instructions, take responsibility for my work and am willing to learn quickly.”
This answer sounds much stronger and shows that you are ready to work.
In many positions in Israel, not only experience and language are important to the employer, namely: punctuality, stability, the ability to follow instructions, calm communication, responsibility, and willingness to learn if necessary.
And of course, an interview is not only about testing the candidate. You also need to figure out if the job is right for you.

An employer is not always looking for a person who already knows how to do everything. Sometimes it is more important that both parties feel comfortable at work.
💡 If you don’t have specific experience, you can say:
"This is a task I haven't worked on before, but I'm willing to learn. If I can be shown how to do the job correctly, I can get up to speed quickly."
✅ This is much better than just saying: “I don’t know how.”
Talk about yourself, emphasizing your benefits:
When asked “Tell me about yourself,” it is very important to connect your experience with the desired vacancy.
