After a missile strike: how can Israelis receive compensation for damaged housing?
Israel has a clear compensation mechanism for citizens whose property was damaged as a result of rocket attacks or other military actions. The state undertakes to compensate for the damage, but in order to receive payments it is necessary to follow the established procedure.
Who is entitled to compensation
Compensation is provided to apartment owners and tenants if the property was damaged due to a missile strike or other security-related actions. We can talk about either partial damage - broken windows, damaged walls, destroyed furniture - or serious damage to the building.
You can apply for payments regardless of whether the apartment is insured or not. The main body responsible for such payments is the Israel Tax Authority through a special compensation fund.
What to do immediately after a blow
The first and most important thing is to make sure that the housing is safe to stay in. After this, it is recommended to follow several important steps:
document damage: take photographs and videos;
preserve debris and damaged objects until examined by specialists;
report the incident to local services and the municipality;
submit an application for compensation to the Tax Office.
