Documents and legal work: what you need to know in advance

Legal status is your protection. Illegal employment deprives you of rights and makes you vulnerable.

Basic checklist

• Specify on what basis you will work.
• Require written conditions: rate, schedule, housing, responsibilities.
• Keep copies of documents and correspondence.
• Do not give the original passport to your employer for “safekeeping.”
