Since April 25, public transport tariffs have increased in Israel - what has changed?
The country has launched the second stage of the “Transport Justice” reform (צדק תחבורתי), initiated by Transport Minister Miri Regev. Travel prices have increased significantly.
🚍 Main changes:
• Single trip by bus or metronite (up to 15 km): from 6 ₪ to 8 ₪.
• Single train trip (up to 15 km): from 9.5 ₪ to 11.5 ₪.
• Daily pass: from 13 ₪ to 17.5 ₪.
• Monthly pass (up to 40 km): from 236 ₪ to 323 ₪.
🎟️ New benefits and discounts:
• Free travel for citizens over 67 years old (previously - over 75 years old).
• Free travel for demobilized soldiers and those who have completed alternative service for a year after completion of service.
• 33% discount for youth aged 18–26 years.
• 50% discount for residents of areas with low socio-economic status (clusters 1-5 on the CSB scale).
💼 Reimbursement of transportation expenses from the employer:
If you work officially, your employer is obliged to pay your travel expenses to and from work - if the distance exceeds 500 meters or more than three bus stops.
The maximum amount of compensation for today is ₪22.60 per day. Compensation is paid for each working day, except in cases of vacation, sick leave or if the company provides transportation.
Usually the employer pays for a monthly travel pass
Despite rising prices, many workers will maintain the same conditions thanks to compensation or transfers from the employer.
